The 1932 Tarzan serial was produced independently, recorded on disc and sold station by station — an early demonstration that a programme did not need a network to reach the country. Joan Burroughs, the author's daughter, played Jane, and her husband James Pierce, who had played Tarzan on screen, took the lead. The recordings are the earliest surviving syndicated adventure serial of any length.
