The idea was simple and enormously expensive: take the country's most bookable orchestra, put it on a train to a camp or a bomber plant, and broadcast the dance to everyone else. Six nights a week for four years. It made Coca-Cola the most heard sponsor in America and it left behind a run of location recordings with a quality nothing in a studio has — several thousand servicemen in a hangar, reacting in real time to In the Mood.
