The V-Disc programme was run by the U.S. Army's Music Branch from October 1943, pressing 12-inch discs of new recordings for distribution to service personnel overseas. Because the American Federation of Musicians recording ban was waived only for these military pressings, V-Discs preserve performances by Bing Crosby, Duke Ellington, Tommy Dorsey, Toscanini and the New York Philharmonic that exist in no commercial release. These transfers stream from the Internet Archive's Armed Forces Radio Service collection.
